Evil Software Of The Month

There is pleanty of bad software out there, stealing your data and much more. I’ve decided to give awards out to software that I call “evil”. I feel this software should not be on the market or needs major changes to be safe and secure for its users.

GlobalProtect – November 2021

My first award goes to the GlobalProtect VPN software that I am forced to use for a contract I was working on. My biggest issue with GlobalProtect is that it’s so hard to get it to stop running as you can see in the video below. Because it relies on a service to run, it keeps coming back, even the service! Therefore I do not trust what data it’s actually sending through its VPN. After watching this, I hope DevOps teams think twice before using it!

Update:

  • Sometimes, the auto log out does not work!
  • The mobile app won’t show a loginto request if the app is open!!!
Sorry! This product is not available for purchase at this time.

  1. Interesting. I click on the TaskBar Icon, and Disconnect, and have no problems….

As for Services, they should (well almost) never be terminated via Task Manager… Stop Them, Set thir Start Mode, or even Disable them all from services.msc

    1. Well, I don’t like big brother listening when it does not need to. There should be an Exit or Close that stops everything (this is easy to do!). Why is it my responsibility to stop the services and the app?? Try disabling the services and then starting GlobalProtect! It’s a usability thing to me. I have NEVER used a VPN that worked this way.
