Celebrating Community: A Shining Example from SQL Saturday Baton Rouge
In a time when many user groups, meetups, and grassroots conferences are fading away, SQL Saturday Baton Rouge is a refreshing exception. This year marked their 16th annual event, and it’s clear the community spirit is stronger than ever.
With generous support from a wide range of sponsors and LSU providing the venue for free, the organizers created an event that felt both professional and welcoming. For a smaller city, Baton Rouge showed up in a big way—with nearly 300 attendees and speakers who flew in from across the country just to be part of it (not for the first time, either). I thought moving to Austin made me a long-distance traveler—turns out, I had plenty of company!
What stood out most was how genuinely passionate the organizers and attendees were. Kenny and the team did a phenomenal job bringing this event to life. Their dedication is proof that when a community comes together, incredible things happen.
Louisiana may be a small state, but it’s making a big impact when it comes to nurturing tech communities. I was truly inspired—and if all goes well, I plan to return next year.
