I’m thrilled to announce that, for the very first time, the For Those About To Code: World Wide Tour will be making a stop at the 2023 Build Stuff event in Vilnius, Lithuania from November 15th to 17th! This marks my first visit to Lithuania, and I’m eagerly anticipating an amazing time with fellow tech enthusiasts.
During the event, I’ll be leading the following session and workshop:
Röck Yoür Cöde: Code & App Performance for Microsoft .NET
Are you tired of slow and inefficient code in your back-end applications and microservices, causing delays and bottlenecks in processing tens of thousands of requests per second? Look no further! In this session, I will reveal the essential dos and don’ts for drastically improving code performance in your business software. With demonstrated examples, I will showcase techniques that can make your code up to 98% faster! Plus, I will delve into the crucial topic of reducing your app’s memory usage for optimal efficiency. All demos are designed to work seamlessly with .NET Framework and .NET, as part of my mission to elevate code quality one developer at a time. Join me and unlock the power of high-performing code!
Here Is What Attendees Are Saying About This Session
- Bob R. – David gave an excellent presentation on code performance. He showed us how, why, and to what degree various coding methods improved the performance of an application. Lots of tips and tricks!
- Will S. – David McCarter rocked us with .NET performance tips and tricks! And you all should follow it, like a roadie!
Objectives:
- To educate developers on the dos and don’ts for improving code performance in back-end applications and microservices.
- To demonstrate techniques that can make code up to 98% faster, with real-world examples.
- To provide guidance on reducing app memory usage for optimal efficiency.
- To showcase how these techniques can be applied to .NET Framework and .NET technologies.
- To promote a culture of code quality and continuous improvement among developers.
This is part of my series titled “Improving Code Quality… One Developer at A Time”.
RÖCK YOÜR CÖDE: APPLICATION GLOBALIZATION WORKSHOP
In today’s global world, it’s essential that the applications we create work seamlessly across different languages and locales to cater to a diverse user base. However, many projects fail to consider globalization, which can lead to costly and time-consuming efforts to retrofit the application later.
This 3-hour hands-on workshop aims to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to implement globalization in your work project within eight hours or less. You’ll bring your own laptop and work projects to get started immediately.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn about the importance of globalization and internationalization, how to ensure numbers, date time, and other variables are coded correctly to support multiple locales, and how to globalize the strings that users see. This includes preparing resource files, refactoring strings into resource files, and coding the globalization of strings appropriately.
To make translations fast, easy, and cost-effective, we’ll also cover how to use the Multilingual App Toolkit. Finally, we’ll teach you how to configure the EditorConfig file to detect and address issues.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll be well on your way to supporting users from different countries and enhancing the accessibility and usability of your applications.
How To Prepare for the WorkshoP
Let’s kickstart your work project for globalization and localization. Before attending the workshop, please complete the following preparation steps:
- Ensure that Visual Studio 2022 is fully updated.
- Ensure the project you are currently working on at your workplace is on your laptop. It’s advisable to create a dedicated branch in your source control system for this purpose.
- Make sure you have an active Azure account.
- Create a new instance of Cognitive Services Translator in the Azure portal.
- Install the Multilingual App Toolkit from the Visual Studio Marketplace.
- Install the Multilingual App Toolkit Editor from https://bit.ly/CSMLATE.
